NOUVÈ DE GERSI

NOUVÈ DE GERSI

Christmas carols from Piedmont to Provence

With Gabriele Ferrero, Nicolò Bottasso and Andres Saladrigas.

Espaci Occitan‘s rich year of linguistic and cultural offerings concludes-as far as its Dronero premises are concerned-with the concert Novè de Gersi, which the association offers to the public on Friday, December 13, at 9 p.m. The protagonist of the evening will be the trio composed of some very well-known musicians active in Italy and abroad: Gabriele Ferrero on violin, soprano sax, mousette and voice; Nicolò Bottasso on violin, tenor violin, trumpet and voice; and Anres Reyes Saladrigas on voice, percussion and installations.

The ensemble’s project stems from the study of the extensive repertoire of Provençal “Nouvè,” an ancient Christmas genre that while dealing with themes related to the Nativity often departs from the liturgy with naïve and popular traits, and already revisited in a contemporary way since the 1970s by Provençal musicians such as Jean-Marie Carlotti and Patrick Vaillant.

The research also shifts to the Piedmontese side of the Alps to create a musical mixture that breaks away from philology to find new expressive paths, improvisations and installations that take their origin from figure theater. The result is a concert with an intimate and ancient dimension that speaks the language of dreams, birth and rebirth.

The event is free and free admission, and will take place at the Espaci Occitan Institute of Studies, Via Val Maira 19 in Dronero
